Normally you would not associate fabric-covered C-pillars adorned with landau bars with light-duty pickup trucks from the Twenties; the treatment would suggest the combination more fitting of the luxury car market – no matter the pre-Eighties decade. However, when evidence suggests that the pickup in question had been bodied by Briggs Manufacturing Company as a potential one-off for Hudson’s Essex works, it starts to make a little more sense. Senior Editor Mark McCourt was fortunate enough to learn first hand of the light-duty truck’s existence and the effort to restore it, penned in an article that appeared in the April 2015 issue of Hemmings Motor News. Since then, the restoration has concluded and this rare, and certainly unique truck, is scheduled to appear in our annual Vintage Truck class at the 10th annual Hemmings Motor News Concours d’Elegance. It will be accompanied by several other examples of the light-duty brigade – including by not limited to a Ford Model TT, Ford Model AA, Plymouth Express, Chevy 3100, Ford Ranchero and even a Crosley Farm-O-Road – at the Concours in one of 14 classes that will grace this year’s show field.

Held on Sunday, September 25, in the picturesque Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Concours d’Elegance will be preceded by the Hemmings Rally to Lake George on Friday, September 23, accompanied by Lia Infiniti’s Test Drive Event. Concluding the day’s activities will be the catered unveiling of the 2017 Infiniti Q60 and QX30 at the Saratoga Automobile Museum from 7-9 p.m. Saturday opens with the Hemmings Cruise-In Spectacular followed by the Concours evening banquet, the latter headlined by a keynote address from this year’s Honorary Chairman, automotive legend Lee Holman. Joining us throughout the weekend will be Porsche, Tesla and the Prestige Family of Fine Cars, each offering test drive/test ride opportunities, while Ed Lucas will once again be our Master of Ceremonies throughout the three-day affair.

Although all 2016 classes have been filled to capacity, we are already accepting vehicles for consideration for the 2017 Concours (the class details of which will be announced shortly). To submit a vehicle, please send full contact information, photos and a brief write-up about it to Hemmings Motor News Concours, Attn: Matthew Litwin, 222 Main Street, Bennington, Vermont, 05201, or by email at concours@hemmings.com.
