The Best.Show.Ever

The Best.Show.Ever

81 DeLorean DMC-12In the midst of the 639 episodes of The Simpsons that have been aired, there was also The Simpsons Movie. While many Simpson-heads look forward to watching an epic marathon of these, let’s take a look back at some of the iconic vehicles that were so lovingly drawn into the legend that is The Simpsons.

DeLorean DMC-12: If you thought the DeLorean DMC-12 was only in Back to the Future, then you missed the 19th episode in the 7th season. Troy McClure, voiced by legendary funnyman Phil Hartman, drove a DeLorean DMC-12. The car injured Police Chief Wiggums and it was used when McClure married Selma.

'73 Volkswagen ThingVolkswagen Thing: Imagine the car that Patty and Selma Bouvier would drive. The last car you might imagine is the Volkswagen Thing, but that is what they drove together throughout the entire series. Their appropriate license plate reads “MANH8TR.”

Saturn SL2: In the 10th season, Homer begins to search his roots to find out more about his estranged mother. On his search, he finds a pair of hippies who knew her. These hippies have a booming juice business as well as a business growing some special plants. Homer accidentally makes juice with those plants and when the cops come to take them away, the hippies and homer get away in the Saturn SL2.

1956 ThunderbirdFord Thunderbird: No iconic movie was safe and the show’s 5th year, the writers poked fun at Thelma and Louise. Marge befriends a woman named Ruth Powers and the pair drive away in a 1966 Ford Thunderbird. They do drive up the edge of the Grand Canyon, but stop before taking the plunge. Homer and Chief Wiggums were in hot pursuit of the pair and they crashed into the Grand Canyon, but the pair survived thanks to the antics of the writers who filled the canyon with garbage.

Geo Metro: What else would Ned Flanders drive? The loveable neighborino packs his kind family in this little car and in one scene, the kids tell their dad to drive faster. Ned replies with “I can’t, it’s a Geo!”

Lincoln Navigator: Television shows were not safe from the clever writers, too. In one episode, the writers make fun of The Sopranos and they give Fat Tony a 2005 Lincoln Navigator to drive. To make the car even more appropriate for the mafioso, they made it a black one, with heavily tinted windows.
