Why the Pacer was Perfect for Wayne’s World

The car is not cool and it does not care: Garth Algar, the car’s owner, has the same traits. He is not a cool guy, if the cool guy is a good-looking, physically fit, football-player type. It is impossible to see a cool guy in an AMC Pacer.
The car has flames: The flames add just that little bit of personality. Garth is a quiet guy, but his long blonde hair suggests that there might be a little bit more behind his soft-spoken gentleness.

The blue color is subtle and comfortable: Even though Garth Algar never really seems completely at ease, it is easy to imagine him driving a denim-blue car. It is hard to picture Garth wearing anything but faded jeans, which are about the same color as the Pacer he drives.
The AMC Pacer will never be a truly cool car, but by being featured in Wayne’s World in 1992, the car take a few steps up, moving ahead of other uncool cars. With Garth Algar and Wayne Campbell not being embarrassed about driving one, they made it ok for others, especially metalheads like them, to sit behind the wheel of a partially customized AMC Pacer.
