In February, Chevrolet announced the return of the track-focused Camaro 1LE, available in 2017 on both V-8 powered SS models and V-6 powered LT models. Later, the automaker confirmed the worst-kept secret in Detroit, announcing a new version of its range-topping Camaro ZL1, powered by a 650-horsepower supercharged LT4 V-8. Chevy has now priced the three models (four, counting the ZL1 convertible), which are expected to hit garages and road courses before year-end.
Atop the range, the ZL1 will begin at a price of $62,135 for the coupe equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, while the convertible will begin at a price of $69,135 with row-them-yourself gears. Opting for the 10-speed automatic transmission will actually produce faster lap times, and Chevy has benchmarked the car’s performance with this gearbox. A ZL1 coupe so equipped is said to get from 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds (0.4 seconds quicker than the previous ZL1), and will reportedly get through the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at a trap speed of 127 MPH. Proving the ZL1 isn’t a one-trick-pony (car), it’s also capable of pulling 1.02 g in a corner, and will stop from 60 MPH in 107 feet.

Standard features on ZL1 models include the Magnetic Ride Control suspension; an electronic limited-slip differential (lighter than a mechanical unit); dual-mode exhaust; a Driver Mode Selector, which alters power delivery and stability control settings; aerodynamic enhancements to improve high speed stability and engine cooling; 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wearing Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires developed specifically for the Camaro; Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers; a cooling package for engine, differential and transmission; and Recaro front seats.
Track-day junkies of more modest means will be able to purchase a V-8 powered 1LE at a starting price of $44,400, which includes the $6,500 1LE package on a Camaro in 1SS trim. Performance-wise, the V-8 SS 1LE coupe will get from 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds, and while Chevy has yet to release quarter-mile times, the car will deliver the same 1.02 gs in a corner as the ZL1, stopping from 60 MPH in the same 107 feet.

That $6,500 1LE package price on V-8 models delivers the Magnetic Ride Control suspension; an electronic limited-slip differential with 3.73:1 ratio; forged aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 285/30ZR20 front tires and 305/30ZR20 rear tires; Brembo brakes with six-piston front calipers and larger front rotors than the Camaro SS; a track cooling package, with engine oil, differential and transmission coolers; a suede steering wheel with shorter-throw shifter; dual mode exhaust system; Recaro front seats; a satin black hood, front mirrors and unique three-piece rear spoiler; and a satin Graphite front splitter and rear diffuser.
On the V-6 powered 1LT Camaro coupe, the 1LE package adds $4,500 to the car’s starting price of $28,795, resulting in a so-equipped price of $33,295. Despite the loss of two-cylinders, the V-6 1LE still delivers impressive performance, with Chevrolet advertising a 0-60 MPH time of 5.2 seconds, lateral acceleration of 0.97 g, and a 60-0 MPH distance of 112 feet.

As one would assume from the $2,000 reduction in 1LE package price, the V-6 variant makes a few compromises. The Magnetic Ride Control suspension is not part of the deal, but instead the V-6 1LE gets the Camaro SS’s FE3 suspension; 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with 275/35R20 rear tires and 245/40R20 front tires; Brembo four-piston front calipers; a mechanical LSD with 3.27:1 ratio; a track-rated cooling package with oil, diff and transmission coolers; a short-throw shifter and suede steering wheel; a dual-mode exhaust; the Camaro SS’s fuel-delivery system (to prevent fuel starvation in fast corners); a satin black hood, front splitter and unique rear spoiler; and a high-flow grille.
Both V-8 and V-6 1LE models will be available in coupe form only, equipped with the six-speed manual transmission.
