Hemmings Find of the Day – 1967 Morris Traveller

1967 Morris Traveler

In 1960s England, it was common practice to swap a more powerful motorcycle engine into a lightweight Norton frame, creating bikes like the Triton (a Triumph/Norton hybrid), and the Norvin (a Vincent/Norton blend). Perhaps, then, this 1967 Morris Traveller, listed for sale on Hemmings.com, should be referred to as a “Nisris” or a “Morsan,” since it blends the classic good looks of a Morris Traveller woodie wagon with a larger and more powerful 1.4-liter four-cylinder pulled from an unidentified Nissan. It’s bolted to a five-speed transmission instead of the Morris’s original four-speed, which likely helps improve performance further while maintaining stellar fuel economy. Diehard Morris fans may see this as blasphemy, but others will see it for what the builder likely intended – a readily available and practical solution for updating a classic subcompact British wagon. From the seller’s description:

1967 Morris Traveller Woody Wagon – Rare left hand drive. 1.4 litre Nissan engine with 5-speed manual transmission. Gorgeous custom Woody interior ceiling slats and exterior mahogany panels! Front disc brakes with brake booster servo. Original mileage. Alloy wheels. VDO custom temperature and oil pressure gauges. Custom exhaust headers and sway bar. Everything works and in excellent condition.
